Overview
Formative Waypoint check-in surveys are periodically delivered to students. They have different prompts, and each result aligns with Wayfinder's 6 core skills. Each response is measured from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree), reflecting how the student is doing on that core skill that week. These values can help suggest Activity Library content that teachers may care to focus on.
To get a sense of a general trend and to protect from any one prompt skewing the results, we average the last four weeks of available values to determine the Waypoint value. This is also called a four-week leading average.
For instance, a teacher may see the following indicator for their class data.
- The line represents the leading 4-week average, while the bars represent a single week's results.
- The value (ex: 2.4) is the students' average response over the last 4 weeks for the prompt related to Agency. It's also reflected as a blue dot on the line.
- The trend indicator
calculates the difference of the latest 4 week average vs. the same average 4 weeks prior (in other words, the value of the line currently, vs. the value of the line 4 weeks back.)
- If the assessment has not been taken for 8 weeks, the most recent 4 week average is compared to the average of the first 4 weeks we have data for. (ex: say the assessment has been taken for 5 weeks total - the trend indicator will show the difference between weeks 2 - 5's average v.s. weeks 1 - 4's average).
This visual offers a range of information in a quick glance - the value, the trend, and the line itself - all of which teachers can use to inform their next activity!
