Canvas LTI Setup for Administrators

Overview

This article is intended for Canvas Administrators and Wayfinder System Administrators to set up a Canvas Integration in Wayfinder. If you are a teacher, please see: How to Assign Lessons with Canvas.

Instructions

1. Login to Canvas as an administrator.
2. Click on "Admin" on the left-hand navigation, and then on your District Name.
   
3. Click on "Developer Keys" on the left-hand side.
4. Click on "+ Developer Key" and choose "LTI Key"
   
5. In "Key Name," type in "Wayfinder App"
6. Switch the "Method" to "Enter URL."
7. Enter this URL: https://lti.withwayfinder.com/lti/config.json
8. Click on "Save."
   
9. The number under "Details" is your Client ID. Save this somewhere handy; you will need it later. 
10. Switch the "State" to "ON." Click "OK" to the prompt: "Are you sure you want to change the state of this developer key?" 
    
11. Click on "Settings" on the left-hand side.
12. Click on "Apps" tab.
13. Click on "View App Configurations."
    
14. Add a new App by clicking on  button.
15. Set the "Configuration Type" to "By Client ID."
16. Copy and paste the Client ID from your notes in Step 9.
17. Click on "Submit."
    
18. In the "Add App" window, click on "Install."
    
19. Under the "Add to RCE toolbar" column, switch the toggle for the Wayfinder App to "ON." This may take several seconds to load, and will show a green check mark when successful.
20. Click on the Settings Cog to the right, and then on "Deployment ID." 
    
21. A new window will open, showing your Deployment ID. Save this somewhere handy; you will need it later. 
22. Open the Wayfinder Web App in a new tab and login as a System Administrator.
23. Click on the "System Admin" tab on the navigation bar.
24. Click on the "Integrations" tab.
25. Click on "Add LTI 1.3 Integration."
    
26. In "Platform Name," enter "Canvas."
27. In "Issuer," enter this URL: https://canvas.instructure.com
28. Click on "Show Advanced Settings."
    
29. In "Client ID," paste the Client ID you saved to your notes from Step 9.
30. In "Deployment," paste the Deployment ID you saved to your notes from Step 21.
31. Click on "Save."
    
32. If your configuration was successful, you will see a green pop-up at the top-right of your screen "LTI Tool Saved Successfully."
