What Are Summative Waypoints Assessments?

Overview

Summative Waypoints assessments allow educators to measure student growth of Wayfinder’s six Core Skills across the school year. By administering summative Waypoints assessments, educators can understand areas of strength and growth for individual students and the class to make informed, data-driven decisions about instruction.

Summative assessments can be administered in two ways:

  • Students self-report Waypoints (default)
  • Educators observe + report Waypoints

Setting Up a Summative Assessment

Summative assessments must be enabled before you can set up your assessment. For our tutorial on how to set up a summative assessment, please click here.

  1. Select the Summative tab, then click on Set Up Summative Waypoint.
  2. In the setup window, select the grade levels that will participate in Waypoints and the reporting type for each grade band.
  3. Enter your Beginning of Year, optional Mid-Year, and End of Year assessment dates.
  4. Use the checkbox to apply the same dates across all selected grade bands, if applicable.
  5. Read and agree to the acknowledgment statement.
  6. Click Submit to launch your Summative Waypoints assessment.
  7. To set up a Formative assessment, click on the Formative tab and repeat the same setup steps.

 

Viewing Summative Data

  1. Navigate to Waypoints in the left-hand navigation bar
  2. Under the Assessment Name filter on the left, select Summative. 

Overview Tab

  1. Click on the "Overview" tab 
  2. Use the checkboxes above the graph to select which Summative Waypoint assessment(s) to evaluate and compare. 
  3. Hover over the bars in the bar chart to see specific averages of skill data. 
  4. Completion rate tracks who has completed the assessment. Click on the View Details button to view specific school, class, or student names. 
  5. Click on the "Find Activities" button to search for activities that target the Room for Growth skill. 

 

Students Tab

  1. Click on the "Students" tab
  2. Use the dropdown at the top right of the table to filter by assessment. 
  3. Click on the skill name at the top of each column to sort by specific skill data.
