1. What Are Completions?
Wayfinder tracks two types of user activity:
- Views — when an educator opens a lesson or activity to look at it
- Completions — when a lesson or activity is marked as done
Together, these help administrators understand how actively Wayfinder is being used across their schools.
2. Types of Completions
Completions are categorized based on who completed them and how. There are two broad groups: educator completions and student completions.
Educator Completions
| Type | What It Means | Example |
| Educator Lesson Completion | An educator marked a lesson complete on their own, without selecting a classroom | A teacher finishes a professional development lesson independently |
| Educator Activity Completion | An educator marked an activity complete on their own, without selecting a classroom | A counselor completes a resource independently |
| Classroom Lesson Completion | An educator marked a lesson complete with one or more classrooms selected | A teacher teaches a lesson to their 3rd period class |
| Classroom Activity Completion | An educator marked an activity complete with one or more classrooms selected | A teacher facilitates an activity with their homeroom |
Note: When a teacher selects multiple classrooms, this counts as one completion per classroom. For example, selecting 2 classrooms creates 2 lesson completions for that educator.
Student Completions
| Type | What It Means | Example |
| Lesson Completed With Educator | A student received credit for a lesson because their teacher marked it complete for the classroom | Teacher marks lesson complete for 3rd period → each student in that class gets credit |
| Activity Completed With Educator | A student received credit for an activity because their teacher marked it complete for the classroom | Teacher marks activity complete for homeroom → each student gets credit |
| Workbook Submission | A student worked through a lesson's workbook pages and clicked "Finish Lesson" themselves | A student completes an interactive workbook lesson on their own device |
| Independent Practice Completion | A student found an activity in the library and marked it complete on their own | A student self-selects a mindfulness activity and completes it |
3. Dashboard Views
Top Users — By Educator (School Admins)
This view shows a ranked list of educators at your school by total completions. For each educator, you'll see:
- Total Completions — all lesson and activity completions combined
- Lesson Completions — lessons completed independently + lessons taught to classrooms
- Activity Completions — activities completed independently + activities facilitated with classrooms
- Content Views — how many lessons and activities the educator opened
- Unique Students — how many different students were in the classrooms where this educator taught
- Unique Classrooms — how many different classrooms the educator taught to
Top Users — By Classroom (School Admins)
This view shows a ranked list of classrooms by total completions. Each time an educator marks content complete with a classroom selected, that classroom's count increases.
Top Users — By Student (School Admins)
This view shows a ranked list of students by their completion activity:
- Lessons Completed With Educator — lessons the student received credit for through classroom teaching
- Activities Completed With Educator — activities the student received credit for through classroom facilitation
- Workbook Submissions — lessons the student completed by working through a workbook
- Independent Practice Completions — activities the student completed on their own
System Admin Dashboard — By School
District-level administrators see a school-by-school comparison of educator completions and views only. Student completions are not included in school-level totals.
Available Filters
| Filter | Options | Default |
| Duration | Last 30 Days, Last 90 Days, Year to Date, Current Term, School Year | Last 30 Days |
| School | Any school in the district | All schools |
| Classroom | Any classroom (or filter by grade) | All classrooms |
4. CSV Exports
You can download data as CSV files for offline analysis. All exports cover the full School Year regardless of which duration filter you have selected on the dashboard.
Active Users Export
One row per user (both educators and students). Shows all activity for the school year. Educator columns are filled for educator rows, and student columns are filled for student rows.
Top Users by School Export
One row per school. Shows educator completions and views aggregated at the school level.
Top Users by Student Export
One row per student. Shows each student's completions broken down by type (lessons with educator, activities with educator, workbook submissions, independent practice).
Completions Export
One row per individual completion. Shows who completed what, when, and how. Includes the content name, completion type, and a link to the content.
Summary Export
A simple two-column overview showing total counts for each category: active users, educator views, educator completions, and student completions by type.
5. Data Privacy Controls
Administrators can control whether individual users' data appears in the dashboard and exports. Two settings are available per user enrollment:
- Completion data — controls whether the user's completion counts are visible
- View data — controls whether the user's content view counts are visible
What Happens When Data Is Hidden
| Setting | Effect on Dashboard | Effect on Exports |
| Completion data hidden | Completion columns show "--" for this user. Their completions are excluded from classroom and school totals. | Completion columns show "--". Excluded from school-level aggregations. |
| View data hidden | View columns show "--" for this user. Their views are excluded from school totals. | View columns show "--". Excluded from school-level aggregations. |
| Both hidden | User does not appear in the educator list at all. | User is not included in the export. |
Important: Hiding an educator's data does not affect their students. Students who received completions from that educator still see those completions counted on the student views.
6. Common Scenarios
What happens when a teacher marks a lesson complete with 2 classrooms selected?
| View | What Changes |
| By Educator | +2 lesson completions for the teacher (one per classroom) |
| By Classroom | +1 to each of the 2 classrooms |
| By Student | +1 "Lesson Completed With Educator" for each student in both classrooms |
| By School (System Admin) | +2 to the school's lesson completions |
What happens when a student submits a workbook?
| View | What Changes |
| By Educator | No change (student activity doesn't affect educator stats) |
| By Classroom | No change |
| By Student | +1 Workbook Submission for the student |
| By School (System Admin) | No change (school view only counts educator activity) |
What happens when an educator is archived?
- The educator is removed from the "By Educator" list
- Their completions are removed from classroom totals
- Completions they delivered to students still count toward student totals
- If the educator has an active enrollment in another term within the same school year, they will still appear on School Year views
What happens when a student is archived?
- The student is removed from the "By Student" view
- Educator stats are not affected — the educator's completion counts stay the same
-
If the student has an active enrollment in another term within the same school year, they will still appear on School Year views
7. Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly do completions appear on the dashboard?
Completions typically appear within 5 minutes of being created. There is a brief delay while the data is indexed for searching.
Why does an educator's total completions not equal the sum of lesson + activity completions?
It should. If you notice a discrepancy, it may be a timing issue (data still being indexed). Refresh the page after a moment.
A student is enrolled in two schools. Why do they show up in both schools' student lists with the same numbers?
Student completions are not tied to a specific school. When a student is enrolled in multiple schools, their completions appear in both schools' dashboards. This is expected. In CSV exports, the student appears once with both schools listed.
Why are the numbers different when I sum individual school totals vs. the district total?
Students enrolled in multiple schools cause their completions to be counted in each school's totals. The district total correctly counts each completion once. The sum of school totals may be higher because of this overlap.
Can a student "uncomplete" something?
Students can unmark Independent Practice completions they made themselves. Completions made by educators on behalf of students cannot be removed by the student.
Do workbook submissions count multiple times if a student resubmits?
Yes. Each time a student clicks "Finish Lesson," a new submission is recorded. This is by design so that teachers can see a student's latest work. The count reflects all submissions.
What does "Content Views" mean?
A content view is recorded each time an educator opens a lesson or activity page. This tracks engagement even when content isn't marked as complete. Only educator views are tracked — student views are not counted separately.
Why does a user show "--" instead of numbers?
An administrator has turned off data visibility for that user. This is a privacy control. The user's data is also excluded from school and classroom totals to keep everything consistent.
The CSV export shows different numbers than the dashboard. Why?
CSV exports always use the School Year time period, regardless of what duration filter you have selected on the dashboard. If you're viewing "Last 30 Days" on the dashboard but download a CSV, the CSV will cover the full school year.
I archived a teacher, but their students still show completions from that teacher. Is this correct?
Yes. When an educator is archived, their own stats are removed from educator views, but the completions they delivered to students remain. This ensures student records accurately reflect lessons they participated in.
What role types are considered "educators"?
Teachers, counselors, principals, assistants, and staff are all considered educators for completion tracking purposes. Their completions appear in the educator views regardless of their specific role.
How does the "Current Term" filter work?
The Current Term filter only shows users who are enrolled in the current term. If an educator or student was only active in a previous term, they won't appear. To see all activity across the school year, use the "School Year" filter.
