SFTP Data Sync

Overview

This section is intended for users with the System Administrator role in Wayfinder. System Administrators can configure SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) to automatically and securely update teachers, students, and rosters on a scheduled basis. If you have questions about System Administrator access, please contact our support team.

Before continuing, please ensure that all required Wayfinder domains are allowlisted by your district or IT team. Wayfinder supports SFTP as a convenient option for nightly roster updates. We recommend reviewing the Wayfinder Flat File specifications and import process, as these files must meet specific formatting requirements.

Instructions

  1. Click Admin in the left-hand navigation bar.
  2. Click on Import Settings.
  3. Select Flat Files or OneRoster CSV.
  4. Choose SFTP as the Upload Type.
  5. On the left-hand card under the Settings section, locate the Sync Time field.
  6. Select an overnight sync time for when your SFTP files should be processed.
  7. (Optional) Enter Restricted IPs to limit which IP addresses can access your SFTP bucket.
  8. Click Save Import Settings to save your configuration and activate SFTP.
  9. On the right-hand card, locate your SFTP credentials, including Host, Port, Username, and Password.
  10. Use these credentials to connect to your Wayfinder SFTP bucket using an SFTP client or your Student Information System (SIS).
  11. If needed, refresh your SFTP password, keeping in mind that refreshing the password will invalidate any existing SFTP connections.

Sending Files to Wayfinder

  1. Prepare the four required .csv files according to the Wayfinder Flat File specifications.
  2. Ensure all .csv files are unzipped before uploading.
  3. Upload the four .csv files directly to the base directory of your Wayfinder SFTP bucket.
  4. Files will be processed nightly based on the sync time you selected.
  5. If your SIS requires support generating or sending .csv files, share the Wayfinder Flat File specifications with your SIS vendor.
  6. Monitor your roster updates in Wayfinder after the nightly sync completes.
  7. Once rostering is complete, select the login method that best fits your users.
